Sandra Lee Washington
Sandra was born February 2, 1945, at St Vincent's Hospital in Toledo, Ohio. Although, she was the only child of Samuel and Amelia, most people thought she had a sister, because when you saw her she was always with Willie Anne Walker-Moore, her first cousin. Throughout her life, they were inseparable.
The pride and joy of her life was her only son, Darren Lamont Washington, who benefited from her patience, guidance and unwavering love. The continued joy in her life was her eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Her home was always open to her son and his children. She was always available to provide love, support and guidance.
From childhood, Sandra developed a love for reading. She was an avid reader and books were her constant companion. She enjoyed movies by Tyler Perry and the music of Luther Vandross. Preparing meals for her family was very important in her commitment to maintaining family continuity and age old family traditions.
Sandra had unwavering faith in God. She was baptized and raised in the St. Paul AME Zion Methodist Church. In later years, she attended the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church.
Sandra graduated, in the class of 1963, from the Jesup W. Scott High School. She then attended Davis Business College and worked over thirty years at the Economic Opportunity Planning Association (EOPA) as an administrative assistant, retiring in 2003.
She was preceded in death by parents, Amelia and Samuel Washington.
Sandra leaves to cherish her memory only son, Darren Lamont Washington. Sandra is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Donte Belle Sr., LaShy Washington, Barbara Janay Washington, Mike Walker, Darren K. Washington, Dominique Michelle Powell (Jarmarr Dread Sr.), Crystal Powell, Aarron Silas Washington, Daryion Washington, Sherman Powell and DiJon Washington; eighteen great-grandchildren, Tanaysia Belle, Dontasia Belle, Donte Belle Jr., Makayla Harris, Sincere Harris, Prince Harris, Elijah Walker, Saniel Walker, Mekhi Walker, MiiJzai Walker, Darren Anthony Washington, Ezekiel Juan Washington, Jamarr Dread, Jayden Dread, Jamiere Dread, Latavia Powell, La Nia Powell and LeVaeh Powell; one great-great-grandchild, Marcus Powell; special cousin (as a sister), Willie Anne Walker-Moore and a host of other loving relatives and kind friends
