Mother Vernice W. Ethridge was born in Tunica, MS on May 30th, 1924 to the union of Harry and Annie Brown. She was baptized at an early age and accepted Christ as her personal Savior. She walked thereafter in the ordered steps of the Lord.
The Brown family traveled from Tunica to Memphis, TN where Vernice was well-educated even during the Great Depression. She graduated and received high honors from Memphis City Schools. She along with a host of other relatives later migrated north for increased opportunity for Colored people, and landed in Ohio. Vernice studied Education at The University of Toledo, and worked as a Teacher's Assistant for Toledo Public Schools. She was a proud woman with a strong work ethic having held various positions over the years, even into retirement.
Vernice was a gracefully refined woman who loved to shop and travel. She lived by the mantra "Enjoy it all" She kept a smile on her face, and enjoyed making people laugh. She would never hesitate to give her last to a person in need.
A prayer warrior; she served as a missionary for many years traveling to Indiana and Michigan to spread the Gospel. She was a Mother of Thomas Temple C.O.G.I.C. where she remained for many decades.
Vernice had a deep spiritual connection with her Savior; she spent most of her 92 years in the house of the Lord until her health no longer allowed.
God saw fit to open the gates of Heaven for her on February 7th, 2017. She was welcomed by her late parents and 4 siblings; William Brown, Selena Mitchell, Malania Tucker and Clinton Brown. She was also preceded in death by her late husband William Ethridge Sr., granddaughter Tracey Grier, and stepson William Ethridge Jr.
